
Suspected blood diamonds found at JFK
April 23, 2009According to The Imperial Valley News, last Saturday, 11th April, 28 rough diamonds, worth 1,200 carats, have been found at the JFK International Airport in New York. They had a declared value of more than $800,000. The diamonds came from Sierra Leone and did not have the Kimberley Certification Scheme. The shipment of the diamonds was required to be certified as conflict-free. With regard to that the diamonds are suspected to be blood diamonds, that have been smuggled into the USA.
